Apartment Renting help in Austin Texas?

In Texas Can i sign a lease for a apartment if I only have unemployment?
I am planning to relocate to either Fort worth or Austin Texas for health reasons and to find employment. I only have my unemployment and a small amount of child support as income.
Is it possible to get a apartment using just that. No co-signer Also i filed bankruptcy last year. I live in Michigan now and i have a month to month lease.

Also i am looking to move to a walkable neighborhood with public transportation close by. * I have found a few areas that have that.

You know it really depends. It depends on how much you take home a month from both sources of income. Also, have you thought about section 8 housing since you have children? The section 8 apartment complexes are not like you are thinking, some of them are really nice.
I filed bankruptcy and then got an apartment in san antonio and it wasn’t really an issue. You just have to be honest and upfront with them before hand and some of the complexes don’t care.Texas is a debt friendly state and you’d be surprised at how many people file bankruptcy there.Keep in mind Austin is very expensive.Have you thought about San Antonio? Ft.Worth is also affordable. Here are some links that might help you out.
Also,a lot of times in Texas, you will find very nice houses for rent and the rent for a house is often cheaper than an apartment.Renting from a private owner sometimes they don’t ask for credit checks, just deposit but in terms of an apartment,Texas has lots of move-in specials,if you sign a 6 month lease or something along those lines often times you can move in for 99 dollars etc..good luck to you.
